Education:  Bethany graduated from the University of Colorado with a BSN in Nursing.   She received her Masters degree in Nursing Science from UAA in 1997.

Bethany Buchanan has been in the alternative medicine field for 13 years working at Alaska Alternative Medicine Center, First Care and now Avante Medical Center which she co-owns and manages.

Among her many accomplishments, Bethany is past president of the Alaska Nurse Practitioner Association and currently serves as the Webmaster for their website.  In 2000, she initiated the first statewide directory of Nurse Practitioners, that is continually updated and published annually.  In 2003, she was named the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) Nurse Practitioner of the Year.  Additionally, she is a peer reviewer for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Journal as an alternative medicine expert.

Bethany continues her education by attending yearly conferences on topics on primary care, women’s health, heavy metal detoxification and integrative medicine.  She also is dedicated to sharing that information with her patients and other community members by giving frequent lectures and writing informative articles for the Avante Times and other publications.

She has a strong medical background in conventional medicine as well as alternative medicine, making it easy for her to practice both fields and provide complete care for her patients.  She specializes in chronic health challenges and especially enjoys women’s health at mid-life.
