Lori Zitzmann is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with board certification in Adult Health.  She practiced as a registered nurse in Homer, Alaska for 18 years in the areas of emergency room and medical-surgical nursing.

Her interest in alternative medicine led her to Tucson, Arizona in 1998, where she pursued graduate studies at the University of Arizona, focusing on integrative and complementary medicine in various clinical settings.  She graduated with a Masters of Science in Nursing in 2000, and returned to Alaska to live and work.  She maintains a private practice at Avante Medical Center, specializing in prevention and treatment of adult chronic illness and medical problems.

Clinical areas of special interest include hormone balancing for mid-life women, primary care for women’s health, and healthy aging and longevity for both men and women.  She is also trained in the system of metabolic typing as an individualized and scientific approach to nutritional counseling.  Lori uses the nutritional model of metabolic typing as a basis for immune support, weight normalization, and for diabetes and cholesterol management.

She uses both conventional and alternative medical treatments to best meet the unique needs of each client.  She strives to stay current through extensive reading of professional literature and by attending conferences and seminars on a regular basis.  She has taught public community schools classes on women’s health issues and has written articles for local publications.
