Allergy Neutralization and Provocation

The immune system is designed to provide a defense to our enemies; bacteria, viruses and other infectious agents that may create havoc in our bodies.  When the immune system works normally, there is little trouble with these enemies; however, when one has allergies, one’s immune system becomes “twitchy” or “hyperactive.”

The immune system may protect the body from infectious agents, but it also mistakes the environment, or other agents, as “aggressors”, causing one to illicit an immune response, leading to allergic symptoms.  This response can be directed at many antigens in our environment from grass to foods, all creating an imbalance in one’s immune response.  This allergic response can make many of us miserable or at risk for secondary conditions and infections, such as asthma and chronic sinusitis.

When the immune system responds to substances other than the true “enemies”, the mistaken immune response is known as an allergic reaction.

Provocation-neutralization is a method of testing for the presence of food, inhalant and environmental chemical allergies by exposing the individual to test doses of these substances with the purpose of either producing or preventing symptoms.

Provocation-neutralization is based on the concept that extremely small quantities of allergens can cause the immediate disappearance or “neutralization” of ongoing symptoms.  Positive allergic responses are interpreted either by subjective symptom provocation or objective skin whealing via a tiny injection just under the skin.  A progressive series of lower concentrations are then administered under the skin until a dose is reached at which the patient reports no sensations and the skin shows no wheal growth. This amount of the test substance is considered the “neutralizing dose”, which is then used for future treatments.

For the treatment, the patient is given a personalized cocktail of their neutralizing concentrations that can be self-administered by sublingual (under the tongue) drops given a couple of times weekly or up to three times a day.  Neutralizing vaccines only take a few days or weeks to work and the success rate is very high.

Patients must have a referral for this service and it is billable to insurance.  Costs are dependent upon the number of tests it takes to provoke the allergen and therefore can vary.

Provocation-neutralization is an excellent way to treat stubborn allergies that may have plagued your life for years.  Whether allergies occur each season or happen daily, this treatment can effectively allow an individual to overcome chronic allergies and the conditions that result from them.
